Two WPHS Students Selected for NY All-State Orchestra

8/28/2015

Congratulations to Meredith Abato and Sarah Samaranayake on being selected for the 2015 New York All-State Orchestra!

The qualification process began when both students performed solos of the highest difficulty possible during the NYSSMA Zone 11 Solo and Ensemble festival last April. In order to be chosen for the orchestra, a student must earn a perfect score of 100 on their solo! Finally, students across the state are ranked by judges among the other perfect scores, and the highest-ranked students are chosen for all-state.

These students are among an elite group of only about 150 string players from all of New York State who made the cut.

Euphonium player Elana Hausknecht and singer Isabelle Levine were also selected from WPHS for the All-State Band and Choir. The festival takes place December 3-6, 2015 in Rochester, NY. They have worked hard for this incredible accomplishment and will represent White Plains well.

Bravo!
